Iiyama Kokusai

飯山国際スキー場　長野県飯山市

Iiyama Kokusai was a ski area located close to the central area of Iiyama City in the northern region of Nagano Prefecture. The base was less than 4km from Route 117 and about 1km off the road that continues up to the currently operating Madarao Mountain Resort, traditionally known as Madarao Kogen. The slopes were serviced by four single lifts but only three were operating in later years before closing in 2001.

  • The lowest single lift was rested in later years of operation
    　
  • According to official numbers published by Iiyama City, in 1989 over 50,000 people visited Iiyama Kokusai
    　
  • In the final year of operation, 17,750 people visited the ski area
    　
  • Apparently at one time this ski area limited the number of visitors each day to 1,500 people
    　
  • That was used as a selling point - 'avoid crowded slopes'
    　
  • The 210m single lift serviced the steep top 43 degree gradient course
    　
  • The base of this ski area is close to the top of the Iiyama ski jump facility
