Tazawako Kogen ASSL was a ski area located on the north western slopes of Mt Akita Komagatake and about 10km to the north east of Lake Tazawa in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture. It was originally known as Tazawako Kogen. ASSL stood for ‘All Season Spa-resort Land’. The still-operating Tazawako ski area is close-by.

  • Tazawako Kogen ASSL was originally known as just Tazawako Kogen　田沢湖高原スキー場
    　
  • The name was changed to Tazawako Kogen ASSL in 2000
    　
  • Though it does also seems to have been known in some guidebooks as simply Tazawako ASSL

  • It was around the time of the ski area name change that one of the base single lifts was rested
    　
  • There appears to have been some further downscaling of operations before closing
    　
  • A free horse-drawn carriage service took people from the car park to the base lift
    　
  • The ski area proclaimed itself as being 'the first ski slope in Japan where you can play with pets'  「日本初 ペットと一緒に遊べるゲレンデ」

  • It was announced that the ski area would not be opening for the upcoming season in December 2006

  • The Alpa Komakusa onsen hot springs facility  アルパこまくさ  operates at the base and there are are other onsen close by collectively knpown as Tazawako Kogen Onsen  田沢湖高原温泉郷
    　
  • In recent years there have been attempts to hold certain 'snow activities' including snow rafting and 'snow picnics' at this location
