白河甲子高原スキー場 福島県西郷村

Shirakawa Kashi Kogen was a ski area in Nishigo Village, Fukushima Prefecture. Limited information about this old ski area can be found, but it appears to have closed before or around the time that the larger Azukurayama Ski Area (later renamed as Shirakawa Kogen) opened in the early 1970s. After closing, a leisure facility called Kyororon Mura was built at the location.

Further Information

  • The one and only record that can be found about Shirakawa Kashi Kogen ski area was on a local blog (which has since disappeared)

  • It mentioned that the ski area had one single lift and one pair lift

  • One lift can clearly be seen in the aerial photograph from 1975 (above), but the positioning of a second lift cannot be confirmed

  • The area struggled with snowfall, and apparently, that was one reason why a larger ski area was built at a higher elevation, less than 5km to the southwest

  • That ski area opened in 1972 and was called Azakurayama Ski Area  赤面山スキー場

  • Azakurayama was renamed Shirakawa Kogen 白河高原スキー場 in the late 1990s, but it only operated for a short while beyond that

  • Unfortunately, Shirakawa Kogen closed in 2001

  • More information on Shirakawa Kogen here

  • In 1994, a leisure tourist facility called Kyororon Mura キョロロン村 opened at the location of the old Shirakawa Kashi Kogen ski area

  • It offered various outdoor activities such as tennis, mini golf, go-karts, buggies and camping

  • Kyororon Mura closed in 2020
