Furukawa
Hida City, Gifu Prefecture
古川スキー場 岐阜県飛騨市
Furukawa was a ski area in what used to be Furukawa Town, now part of Hida City, in the northern region of Gifu Prefecture. The ski area opened in 1956 and closed around 1990. Since the early 2000s, a local group of volunteers has been working to plant 1,000 cherry blossom trees on the old ski slope, and they have named it Tsuioku no niwa (‘Garden of Memories’). Nice touch.
