Hida Norikura Pentapia Snow World was a ski area located on the north western slopes of Mt Norikura in northern Gifu Prefecture. When it was open Hida Norikura Pentapia Snow World was the only ‘skiers-only’ ski area in Gifu Prefecture. There were plans for expansion, but due to declining numbers this ski area only lasted for six winter seasons. It was last open in early March 2003.

  • Hida Norikura Pentapia Snow World was operated by Nyukawa Village
    　
  • Nyukawa Village  丹生川村  became part of Takayama City  高山市  on 1st February 2005
    　
  • Snowboarding was not allowed at Hida Norikura Pentapia Snow World
    　
  • At the time it was the only skiers-only ski area in Gifu Prefecture, and marketed as such
    　
  • There was a 5km cross-country course to the side of the ski area
    　
  • Apparently there were plans to expand the ski area, including a possible gondola lift going up to the Norikura Skyline road  乗鞍スカイライン
    　
  • However, visitor numbers dropped each year - halving in the six years of operation to just over 10,000 people in the last season
    　
  • It did not open for the 2004-2005 season and was officially eventually abolished in January 2007
    　
  • The two lifts have since been removed
    　
  • The building at the base is now called Goshikigahara no mori Annai Center  五色ケ原の森案内センター  and is the base for various walking and trekking routes
    　
  • Hounokidaira Ski Area (still operating) is just over 1km to the west and could be seen from the slopes of Hida Norikura Pentapia Snow World
    　
  • The meaning of the 'Pentapia' part of the name is... unknown
