Hirugano Ogamidaira

Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture

ひるがの尾上平スキー場 岐阜県高山市

Hirugano Ogamidaira, or just Ogamidaira, was a ski area located in the western region of Takayama City, close to the border with Gujo City in northern Gifu Prefecture. This ski area was open from the early 1970s until the mid to late 1980s. Unfortunately, the site of the old ski area is now locked away behind often gated forest roads, and nature has spent the last 35 years reclaiming the mountain.

Further Information

  • Hirugano Ogamidaira is an old ski area for which only limited information is available...

  • ...including various unconfirmed, conflicting and sometimes dubious information

  • Ogamidaira apparently opened in the early 1970s and closed around 1987

  • It was reached via a narrow and winding forest road from the Hirugano Kogen area of Gujo City

  • In recent years that road has often been closed with locked gates and clear 'no entry' signs, sadly making a visit to the site very difficult

  • Various information found online mentions only two ski lifts, but an old (seemingly official) pamphlet shows three lifts - two singles (539m and 342m) and one pair lift (279m)

  • That same pamphlet also mentions a season stretching from late November through late April, a ski school, night skiing and parking for 5000 (!?) vehicles

  • The car park seems to have been located just by the base of the two lifts that ran in parallel

  • The pamphlet also boasts of a top elevation of 1,300m, but looking at online maps, that seems very unlikely (1,200m seems much more realistic)

  • It also also features a large photograph of a topless female skier!

  • This area used to be part of Shokawa Village  荘川村

  • In February 2005, Shokawa become part of Takayama City  高山市
