Hotaka Bokujo

Hotaka Bokujo was a ski area located on the eastern slopes of Mt Hotaka in Katashina Village in the northern region of Gunma Prefecture. Unlike many ski areas, the upper section was wider and more open than the base area. Hotaka Bokujo used to be very popular with snowboarders who consistently made up 90% of visitors. In the later years, the number of people using Hotaka Bokujo was less than half those of the peak years. Investment in the ageing facilities was considered difficult and the closing of Hotaka Bokujo was announced prior to the start of the 2016-2017 season. The top area is still used as a camping site in the summer months.

  • Hotaka is the name of the mountain; Bokujo means ranch or farm
    　
  • There were once six lifts but at the time of closing only the four pair lifts were in operation
    　
  • The base Number 2 single lift and Number 5 pair lift facilities remain in place as of spring 2020
    　
  • The base Number 1 pair lift has now been totally removed

  • Hotaka Bokujo was especially popular with snowboarders
    　
  • After closing, the popular snow park was moved over to the nearby Oguna Hokata (operated by the same company)
