森のスキー場　群馬県草津町

Mori no Skijo is a small ski area to the north of the famous Kusatsu onsen hot spring town area in the western region of Gunma Prefecture. The ski area has one single lift and a few runs coming down on either side. The ski area is closely associated with the closeby hotel, but it has not opened in recent years. The ski lift is still standing.

  • The single lift at Mori no Skijo opened in 1983
    　
  • It is about a 5-minute drive from the famous Kusatsu Onsen Ski Area (previously known as Kusatsu Kokusai) [SnowJapan link]
    　
  • This ski area seems to have been closely associated with the accommodation close to the top of the lift known as Nakazawa Village
    　
  • However, day-trip visitors could also use the ski area
    　
  • That accommodation is now known as Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Village 草津温泉ホテルヴィレッジ
    　
  • It is unclear when the ski lift was last open, but it has been closed for at least a few years
    　
  • During a visit to the location in April 2021, the area appeared well-maintained
    　
  • The area is apparently used for other outdoor activities, including 'playing in the snow' type activities in the winter months
