Kokusetsu Tokachidake
Biei Town, Hokkaido
国設十勝岳スキー場 北海道美瑛町
Kokusetsu Tokachidake was a ski area located on the north western slopes of the 2077m Tokachidake active volcano in the Daisetsuzan National Park, on the northern island of Hokkaido. It is on the border of Biei Town and Kamifurano Town. The ski area opened in 1970 but had to close for a number of years from 1988 due to a volcanic eruption. It re-opened in 1993 but eventually closed for good in 1996 and the lifts were removed. Tokachidake is one of the ‘100 Famous Japanese Mountains’ and remains popular for mountain climbing and sightseeing.
