Yokotsudake Kokusai

Yokotsudake Kokusai was a ski area located on the southern slopes of the 1,167m Mt Yokotsu in the southern region of Hokkaido. The south-facing slopes looked back over Hakodate City, which is about 20km away. Yokotsudake Kokusai was open between 1972 and 2005 but the ski lifts still remain in place.

  • Yokotsudake Kokusai first opened on the southern slopes of Mt Yokotsu in 1972
    　
  • A Hokkaido ski guide book from 1986 shows just two pair lifts
    　
  • The lower third lift was added at a later date
    　
  • This ski area was well-known for the juhyo  樹氷  - trees covered with hoar frost and snow - during February
    　
  • It was also popular for floodlit night skiing
    　
  • When it first opened the bus services from Hakodate Station, with various stops on the way, took about 80 minutes
    　
  • There were also three car parks around the central area of the ski area
    　
  • Yokotsudsake Kokusai was last open in 2005 but the lifts still remain in place
    　
  • Hakodata Nanae Snow Park  函館七飯スノーパーク  is on the northern slopes of the same mountain and still operating in 2020
