Shin Tokura

Shiso City, Hyogo Prefecture

新戸倉スキー場 兵庫県宍粟市

Shin Tokura was a ski area located in the northern region of Shiso City in Hyogo Prefecture. It is close to the border with Yabu City and also the border with Tottori Prefecture. The five ski lifts at this ski area - including the first quad lift in Hyogo Prefecture - were installed between 1982 and 1994. Shin Tokura has been closed since 2008 but the ski lifts and facilities mostly remain in place.

Further Information

  • Shin Tokura has a somewhat complicated history of ski lift configurations

  • The changes probably explain sometimes conflicting guide book data regarding this ski area

  • Originally the Number 4 single lift was the starting point of a day at Shin Tokura

  • The Number 5 pair lift opened in 1986

  • When the Number 6 lift opened in 1987 it was the first quad lift in Hyogo Prefecture

  • That quad lift is by the base car park and it became the main new starting point to access the slopes

  • The other two pair lifts opened in 1994

  • Those two pair lifts run in parallel

  • Curiously, those five lifts at Shin Tokura were named Number 3 Pair A and B, Number 4, Number 5 pair and Number 6 quad

  • It appears that there used to be another lift (shown on the above aerial image), but confirmed information on that lift is proving difficult to find

  • It is unclear if there has ever officially been a Number 1 or Number 2 lift

  • At the time of closing in 2008, the ski area claimed that it would be making some changes and planned to re-open  「リニューアルオープン」

  • However, Shin Tokura Ski Area has been closed since 2008

  • The ski lifts and facilities remain in place

  • Camping facilities at the 「フリーサイト Tokura Base Camp」 are now available at the old ski area site
