Further Information

  • Hyonosen Sanroku Ski Area was located in Sekimiya Town 関宮町 on the northeastern slopes of Mt Hyono 氷ノ山

  • In 2004, Sekimiya Town became part of Yabu City 養父市

  • The ski area appears to have opened around 1970

  • It was not listed in many guidebooks, so some details remain somewhat unclear

  • The ski area had three (single) ski lifts

  • The base lift was across a small and narrow bridge by the side of Prefecture Road 87

  • That lift took skiers up to the main ski runs

  • At least at one time, people could ski back down to base via a narrow course

  • However, the base lift was noted as being 'only for getting to the ski slopes' in one guidebook, so perhaps the downhill run was closed in later years

  • On old aerial images, it looks like the longer top lift might have had a mid-station and extended beyond that (see above image)

  • That cannot be confirmed as no reliable course map can be found

  • Hyonosen Sanroku appears to have last been open in the early to mid-2000s

  • The remains of the (very) old base ski lift can still be seen by the side of the road

  • The larger Hyonosen Kokusai 氷ノ山国際スキー場 and Hachi Kogen 八高原スキー場 ski areas (still operating) are nearby further along the road
