八幡平スキー場 岩手県八幡平市

Hachimantai was a ski area located on the eastern slopes of Mt Hachimantai in the northern region of Iwate Prefecture. This ski area usually enjoyed a long season with heavy snowfall and it was popular for off-piste skiing. Hachimantai opened in the 1960s and closed in 2007.

Further Information

  • The south-eastern facing ski runs of Hachimantai Ski Area were on the eastern slopes of Mt Hachimantai  八幡平
     
  • This ski area was well known as having a long season from mid November until early May, large amounts of snow and good views looking out towards Mt Iwate
     
  • Hachimantai was also popular for off-piste riding
     
  • There was also a tour course over to the nearby Appi Kogen 安比高原, now commonly known as just APPI
     
  • A 1989 guide book shows a 763m T-bar lift running alongside the top lift as well as a 250m rope tow lift near base
     
  • The rope tow lift was a means of getting to the slopes from the base, car park and Hachimantai Youth Hostel 八幡平ユースホステル 
     
  • That lift was free to use
     
  • By 2001 the ski guide books were only showing one single lift in the base area
     
  • The top t-bar and rope-tow had also disappeared
     
  • There was a 40m ski jump by base as well as a cross country course
     
  • The snow in this area still attracts people enjoying backcountry activities
     
  • Hachimantai Ski Area closed in 2007
     
  • Hachimantai Youth Hostel closed in 2011
