Ohira

Nakano City, Nagano Prefecture

大平スキー場 長野県中野市

Ohira was a ski area located in what was then Toyota Village in the northern region of Nagano Prefecture. Toyota became part of Nakano City in 2005. This ski area closed in 1975 and the hill is now very overgrown. A concrete foundation of the one single ski lift still remains at the base. Otherwise there is little evidence of a ski area being at this location.

Further Information

  • Ohira opened in 1968

  • It sold itself as being the 'closest ski area from Nagano Station'  「長野駅より最も近い便利なスキー場」

  • People used to use the local train from Nagano Station to Iiyama Station and then a bus

  • Unfortunately, the ski area did not last a decade and closed in 1975

  • Since then nature has taken over and the area is now overgrown

  • The ski lift was mostly still in place as late as 2012, but has since been removed

  • Only the concrete base foundation now remains

  • Apart from a small clearing close to the base, it is now difficult to imagine there was ever ski area at this location

  • When it was open, Ohira was part of Toyota Village  豊田村

  • Toyota Village became part of Nakano City on 1st April 2005

  • Ohira is about 500m from the Toyota Iiyama IC exit of the Joshinetsu Expressway

  • The expressway exit opened in 1997
