Yanaba Snow Park

Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture

ヤナバスノーパーク 長野県大町市

Yanaba Snow Park is located close to the south-west shores of Lake Aoki in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture. It was originally known as Yanaba Kokusai. This ski area is located close by the side of Route 148, to the south of the famous nearby ski resorts in Hakuba Village. Yanaba Snow Park was one of only a few ski areas that had a train station named after it - Yanaba Skijo Mae Station (now closed) on the Oito line. Yanaba Snow Park currently remains closed but is under different ownership and the facilities remain in place…. there are rumours that it might make a revival but that does not seem to be happening for the 2020-2021 winter season.

Further Information

  • Yanaba Snow Park was originally known as Yanaba Kokusai ヤナバ国際スキー場

  • In 1985 the small winter-only Yanaba Skijo Mae Station ヤナバスキー場前駅 opened on the Oito train line right by the base of the ski area

  • At one time Yanaba had two named areas - Lakeside Area and Yanaba Racing Village (sometimes referred to as Village Side)

  • With the convenient train station opening, the Racing Village side became a minor section of the ski area

  • It closed sometime in the 2000's (unable to confirm date)

  • The quad and pair lift in the main area behind the station continued operating

  • Night operations were suspended in 2004

  • For the 2006-2007 season, the name of the area was changed to Yanaba Snow & Green Park ヤナバスノー&グリーンパーク or just Yanaba Snow Park ヤナバスノーパーク

  • Floodlit night operations also resumed

  • For the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons, a one day lift ticket was just 1,000 yen

  • Yanaba closed for the 2013-2014 season

  • And then re-opened for the 2014-2015 season

  • Yanaba was only able to open for around 40 days during the 2015-2016 season after struggling with snowfall

  • It has not opened since then, but now has different owners...

  • In 2019 the Yanaba Skijo Mae Station was shut down
