Ishinoyu

Shiga Kogen, Yamanouchi Town, Nagano Prefecture

石の湯スキー場 長野県山ノ内町志賀高原

Ishinoyu was a small ski area located in Yamanouchi Town in the northern region of Nagano Prefecture. Ishinoyu was one of the ski areas that are collectively known as Shiga Kogen, but it was not physically connected with any other area. The north facing slope was located in the southern region of Shiga Kogen, about 1km off Route 292 and behind Kidoike. Confirmed details about this ski area remain sparse. It seems to have closed in 1994.

Further Information

  • Ishinoyu was located behind the Kidoike ski area in the southern area of Shiga Kogen

  • It was not physically connected with any other ski area of Shiga Kogen

  • In one old guide book it is listed as Ishinoyu Maeyama  石の湯前山スキー場

  • The one lift had a mid point where skiers could alight

  • A 1973 guidebook shows a lift ticket costing 60 yen

  • There was apparently a ski jump facility in this area, but that cannot be confirmed

  • A well-known ski school was located at Ishinoyu, based in the lodge

  • On visiting the area in late spring, a path to the slope could unfortunately not be found

  • Photographs from the road and on approach can be seen above

  • The mountain peak nearby is called Boderayama  坊寺山

  • At one time a downhill course from the summit of Boderayama was being considered with a view to being used in the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics

  • The proposed course was to end at another now-closed ski area called Annandaira  安南平スキー場

  • More information on Annandaira here
