Yakeyama Onsen was a small ski area located to the south of central Itoigawa City in the south-west region of Niigata Prefecture. The gentle slope at this ski area was on the northern foothills of Niigata Yakeyama and to the north west of Mt Myoko. This area is geographically quite close to Myoko, but a journey to the north around the mountains is necessary to get there. Yakeyama Onsen closed in 2004.

  • Yakeyama Onsen was owned and operated by the same company as an onsen hot springs facility just to the north
    　
  • This ski area had a vertical of just 20m
    　
  • It is mostly a very gentle slope, maximum of 20 degrees
    　
  • Yakeyama Onsen was definitely for beginners
    　
  • Towers for the ski lift still remain in place, in what looks like a half-dismantled state
    　
  • Niigata Yakeyama (2400m)  新潟焼山  and other surrounding mountains make for an impressive backdrop, as can be seen on the above photographs
