Eirinji

Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture

永林寺スキー場 新潟県魚沼市

Eirinji was a small ski area located in the Horinouchi area of Uonuma City. It was named after the nearby temple. The ski area closed quite a long time ago, and the Kanetsu Expressway road now slices through what was once the ski slope.

Further Information

  • Eirinji is the name of the temple nearby

  • The Kanetsu Expressway  関越自動車道  now goes through what was once the ski slope (similar to what happened to Kashiwabara in Shinano Town, Nagano Prefecture)

  • There is a path from the temple, under the expressway and up to what was once the top of the ski slope

  • Apparently, there was at least one 150m rope tow lift

  • Unfortunately, no confirmed records of the ski area can be found, and a local was not able to provide any additional details

  • It is now difficult to imagine there was a ski area at this location at one time

  • This location is not high, but there are fine views of the Echigo Sanzan mountains from the top

  • Horinouchi Town 堀之内町 became part of Uonuma City 魚沼市 in November 2004
