白山森スキー場　山形県長井市

Hakusanmori was a ski area in Nagai City in the southern region of Yamagata Prefecture. It opened in the early 1980s and featured two surface lifts including a rare ‘schlepp’ lift. The ski area was last open during the 2010-2011 winter season. The local community held a commemorative event to remember the ski area before it closed on 25th February 2011.

Further Information

  • Hakusanmori opened in the early 1980s and was operated by the local government
    　
  • The ski area had a 255m 'amber' (schlepp) lift and a 50m rope tow
    　
  • The slope was largely gentle, with a steepest gradient of 15 degrees and an average of 10 degrees
    　
  • It was mainly used by locals and for school ski lessons
    　
  • Until 2005, about 10,000 people used the ski area
    　
  • The ski area is located at a low altitude, close to town level, and in later years, it sometimes struggled with snowfall
    　
  • It closed at the end of the 2010-2011 ski season
    　
  • A 'Thank you Hakusanmori' (ありがとう白山森） commemorative event was held at the ski area with the help of a group of volunteers
    　
  • The event features ski races, sledding, treasure hunt and other activities for young children, ending with a thank you party
    　
  • The last day of operation was Friday 25th February 2011
