Further Information

  • Asama Kogen Family is located in the Asama Kogen 浅間高原 region of Gunma Prefecture, close to the border of Naganohara Town  長野原町  and Tsumagoi Village  嬬恋村

  • On various maps this location appears to be within the borders of Tsumagoi Village, but some information sources have it listed as being in Naganohara Town

  • The ski area offered gentle beginner ski runs and had a maximum gradient of 17 degrees

  • It was serviced by one pony lift going up one side

  • No record of an opening and closing date can be found, but it is thought to have closed in the early 2000s

  • The mechanical parts of the lift still remain in place (see above photographs)

  • The backdrop for this ski area is the beautiful 2568m Asamayama  浅間山

  • Asamayama is apparently the most active volcano on the main island of Honshu

  • The Asama Volcano Museum 浅間火山博物館  was located by the old ski area

  • That facility has been renovated and has re-opened in 2021 as Asamayama Hokuroku Visitor Center  浅間山北麓ビジターセンター

  • It is operated by Naganohara Town

  • The nearby Onioshidashi Park  鬼押出し園  features a fascinating landscape of volcanic rocks, deposited by the mountain in a large eruption in 1783

  • The ASAMA Park Field auto camp area is now also located close-by
