Hakusan Shiramine Onsen

Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture

白山白峰温泉スキー場 石川県白山市

Hakusan Shiramine Onsen was a ski area located on the western slopes of Aoyagiyama in Hakusan City, in the southern region of Ishikawa Prefecture. It was about 25km north of Katsuyama City in Fukui Prefecture. This ski area was originally known as Shiramine Kogen and had a SAJ-approved (Ski Association of Japan) giant slalom course. Hakusan Shiramine Onsen has been closed to the general public since the 2008 season. Since then, two pair lifts have re-opened and now operate as Shiramine Alpen Kyogijou.

Further Information

  • Hakusan Shiramine Onsen was originally known as Hakusan Kogen 白山高原スキー場

  • One guide from the mid-1990s shows 9 ski lifts operating - one quad, one pair and seven single lifts

  • By 2001, the ski area was called Hakusan Shiramine Onsen and was operating the seven ski lifts noted above

  • There were two lower base areas

  • The main southern Canyon Gelande / Diamond Gelande キャニオンゲレンデ・ダイヤモンドゲレンデ was the original area

  • The smaller Young Valley ヤングバレー base area to the north was developed at a later date

  • They connected in the upper area, which was called Giant Valley ジャイアントゲレンデ

  • This ski area featured the only Ski Association of Japan (SAJ) approved Giant Slalom course 全日本スキー連盟公認・大回転コース in Ishikawa Prefecture, and it hosted various ski events

  • Hakusan Shiramine Onsen closed to the general public since 2008

  • In 2011, the two Young Valley lifts re-opened as Shiramine Alpen Kyogijou 白峰アルペン競技場 (Kyogijou generally means stadium, arena or venue)

  • Originally, Shiramine Alpen Kyogijou was only used for special events, but it now opens to the general public on days when events are not being held

  • Along with the nearby Shiramine Cross Country Course 白峰クロスカントリースキー場, Shiramine Alpen Kyogijou is operated by organization called Shiramine Snow Spot 白峰スノースポット

  • More information on Shiramine Alpen Kyogijou can be found on SnowJapan here

  • On a visit to the location in July 2023, the road going up the central section of the ski area was blocked off

  • The quad lift has been removed, though buildings around the base remain
