Hakka Gelande was a ski area located to the west of the town area of Muikamachi in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. It was originally an independent ski area called Hakka Kogen before joining up with the newer Muikamachi Minami in 1987, located across the road. At that point, Hakka Kogen became Hakka Gelande and was operated as part of Muikamachi Minami. Hakka Gelende closed in 2006.

Further Information

  • This ski area was originally known as Hakka Kogen 八箇高原スキー場
    　
  • In 1968, the Muikamachi Minami ski area opened on the other side of Route 253
    　
  • In 1987, Hakka Kogen joined up with Muikamachi Minami and officially became known as Hakka Gelande
    　
  • There was a hotel called Joetsu Star Kogen Hotel Annex  上越スター高原ホテル アネックス  by the side of the road at the base of the ski hill
    　
  • Hakka Gelande closed in 2006
    　
  • Muikamachi Minami changed name to Muikamachi Ski Resort in 2009 and then again to Muica Snow Resort in 2016
    　
  • Muica Snow Resort is still operating
    　
  • Until 2017 the Hakka Toge road off which the two ski hills were found was known as Route 253 and it connected Muikamachi with Tokamachi throughout the year
    　
  • Since then a new stretch of road and tunnel just to the north connects the two town areas and has taken the Route 253 name
    　
  • The tunnel beyond the location of these ski hills is now closed during the winter months
