Asagai Gelande

Yuzawa Town, Niigata Prefecture

浅貝ゲレンデ 新潟県湯沢町

Asagai Gelande was a ski area in the southern region of Yuzawa Town in Niigata Prefecture. It was located just over 1km from the base of the famous Naeba ski resort. It was originally an independent ski area known as Asagai before changing name to Naeba Snow Palma Belcanto in 1993. Naeba Snow Palma Belcanto was bought by the operators of the main Naeba resort in 1994, when it became known as Asagai Gelande. This area allowed snowboarding at a time when the main Naeba resort was still skiers-only. The half-pipe and other park facilities were particilarly popular with snowboarders. During the 2009 and 2010 seasons, it was a ‘skiers-only’ area and towards the end it only opened on weekends.
