Yunishigawa Onsen was a ski area located in the onsen hot spring town area of the same name, in the northern region of Nikko City in Tochigi Prefecture. The onsen town has a long history and is in a remote region of Nikko City. Yunishigawa Onsen Ski Area was not large but it featured some challenging steep slopes that enticed some to make the trip.

Further Information

  • Yunishigawa Onsen is a small onsen hot spring area that has a long history
     
  • The ski area was just to the south of the onsen area
     
  • It was fairly small but featured a 42 degree slope
     
  • That steep course attracted some people to make the trip to Yunishigawa Onsen
     
  • There used to be a single lift, but it was taken down in 2004
     
  • Since then the rope tow lift was used to keep the ski area open
     
  • Today the rope tow mechanism remains at the base, covered in a blue sheet
     
  • The Yunishigawa Onsen Kamakura Festival  湯西川温泉かまくら祭  is a popular event during the peak winter months
     
  • Kamakura are Japanese style igloos/huts
     
  • The festival features various kamakura and various illuminations across a number of venues
     
  • Yunishigawa Onsen Station  湯西川温泉駅  is located within a tunnel, about 10km from the hot springs area
     
  • Since 2010, on average less than 100 people a day have been using the train station
